OBD Diagnostic System

OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) is an on-board diagnostic system for vehicles (cars and trucks). Currently, the OBD-II (USA), EOBD (Europe), and JOBD (Japan) standards are used to provide comprehensive monitoring and control of the engine and other vehicle systems.

  • The on-board diagnostic (OBD) device performs crucial functions in vehicle management and maintenance. Among its key roles are the detection and recording of problems and faults in vehicle systems by reading error codes, facilitating the location and correction of malfunctions. It also monitors emissions to comply with environmental regulations and provides an interface for connecting diagnostic equipment.

  • It informs the driver about the vehicle's status through on-board indicators and contributes to regulatory compliance by establishing standard protocols.

These functions, aligned with standards such as OBD-II, not only improve efficiency in automotive maintenance but also promote the reduction of polluting emissions and compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

  • Under the Instrument Panel

The most common location for the OBD-II port is under the dashboard, near the steering column. Look for a rectangular opening in the panel, which may be covered by a protective cap.

  • Near the Steering Column

The OBD-II port is usually located near the steering column, but its specific position can vary. Inspect the lower part of the instrument panel and the area around the steering column.

  • Other locations where you can find

In some vehicles, the OBD-II port can be found in the area near the accelerator pedal and engine compartment, at the rear of the engine.
