What does this scanner actually do?

The Allstric ELM327 is a Bluetooth OBD2 diagnostic scanner designed for any car owner to understand what is wrong with their vehicle — without being a mechanic and without relying on the repair shop for every question.

What you can do with it:

Read the engine error codes: When the check engine light comes on, the scanner tells you exactly which code is present and what it means. There are over 3,000 code definitions in the database, including manufacturer-specific codes.
Clear the codes once the issue is resolved: If you have fixed the fault, the scanner resets the check engine light. You don’t have to go back to the workshop just to have the indicator turned off.
View car parameters in real time: Engine temperature, RPM, status of oxygen sensors, readiness for the MOT, and much more.
Check the general condition of the engine: Ideal for performing a preventive check, for buying a used car, or for preparing the car for the MOT.

What you CANNOT do:

It does not detect airbag or ABS codes. It only works with the engine. It is not compatible with trucks, tractors, hybrids, or electric vehicles.

How to use it (it's easier than it looks)

Step 1: Locate the OBD2 connector of your car. It is under the steering wheel, usually on the left. If you can't find it, search Google for "OBD2 connector + [make and model of your car]".

Step 2: Connect the scanner to the port. You don't need to turn on anything — it activates on its own.

Step 3: Download the recommended app on your mobile. For Android: Torque (free). For iOS: OBD Fusion or Car Scanner. For PC: EOBD-Facile.

Step 4: Open the app with the car in the "on" position (key turned but engine off) and follow the app's instructions to connect via Bluetooth.

Step 5: Done. You can now read the codes, view real-time parameters, or clear the error if you have already resolved the issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it work with my car brand?

With almost all of them. The scanner is compatible with any vehicle that has an OBD2 connector: virtually all gasoline cars from 2001 and diesel cars from 2004, regardless of the brand. The only exceptions are trucks, tractors, hybrids, and electric vehicles.

Is it compatible with iPhone?

Yes. This model is Bluetooth and works with iOS, Android, Windows, and Linux. For iOS, we recommend the "Car Scanner" or "OBD Fusion" app, available in the App Store.

Can you erase the check engine light?

Yes. Once you have identified and resolved the problem, the scanner can clear the error code and turn off the check engine light. If you clear the code without having resolved the issue, the light will come back on.

Does it detect ABS or airbag faults?

No. This scanner works exclusively with the engine. It does not read or erase codes from the ABS, airbag, transmission, or other systems. If you need a complete diagnosis of all systems, you would need a professional tool.

Can I use it in multiple cars?

Yes. It is reusable in all compatible cars. You can use it in your car, in your partner's, in your parents' — as many times as you need.
